Welcome to Abundant Life Fellowship. We are a Free Methodist church located in lovely Chewelah, WA. As a body of believers, we strive to advance the good news of Jesus Christ, to reach out to the lost and wounded among us, and to make our church a safe place for people to experience God's love and to be empowered for service through being conformed to His image. If you are ever in the heart of Stevens County, please stop by and worship with us and discover what the Lord has in store for you.

Verse of the Month - June

I called to the Lord in my distress, and He answered me.
I cried out for help in the belly of Sheol; You heard my voice.

Hiding, But Seen—This is my cat, Dorah. She’s crouched next to some lupin, believing she’s hidden, ready to pounce whoever goes past her next. I just had to laugh, because she is so visible to me as I see her hiding, and not very well. That got me to think about how many people in the Bible hid themselves or, at least hoped to go unseen either by God or by people. There are many, but here are four. Of course, there is Adam and Eve who hid from God because of they knew they had done something wrong. When we sin against God it’s really hard to be willing to be close to Him. The thing is, in order for our relationship to be restored with God, we must face our sin within his presence. He knows us and he sees us, even when we think we’re hiding from him. He sees the real us, and he’s willing to engage us, even call us out in order to make things right between us, just like he did with Adam and Eve.

Jonah is another one of those who hid from God; he did it by going in the opposite direction of God’s instruction. Jonah didn’t want to bring God’s message to those who had hurt his loved ones. He would rather be thrown into a storming sea, than face the task God had asked him to do. Sometimes we can be like Jonah and run away from what God asks us to do. You know God wants you to reconcile with someone, but the hurt is still there, so you put it off. I wonder if the storms of life would be easier if we would simply do what God asks us to do and not put it off. Your pain by those who have hurt you is seen by God; he sees your hurt. He may even invite you to face that person so that person can meet God and be transformed.

Then there is the woman who touched Jesus and was healed. When Jesus asked who had touched him, she was afraid to admit it. Maybe her fear was what he would do if he knew an unclean woman had touched him. She was timid, she knew she wasn’t supposed to touch Jesus (or anybody for that matter), but she risked it anyway, hoping to go unnoticed. You may feel unworthy to reach out to Jesus, but maybe hope a little of his healing power would rub off on you. He sees you. He knows all the hidden mess in your life, that’s the very place he wants to be invited in to. When you see the face of Jesus and let him see yours, a deeper level of healing takes place. You get to be restored to God and to people.

The last one I want to mention is Zaccheus, a chief tax collector. Curiously, he wanted to see Jesus, but “hid” up in a tree. He was short, and realized people wouldn’t make room for him to see Jesus, so he climbed a tree. I don’t know if he thought Jesus would see him or not, but he did want to see Jesus. Sometimes, we hope to get a glimpse of Jesus. I know I want to be closer to him and see his face. However, do you realize he wants to see you too? Jesus wants to be a part of your life, even when no one else does. Jesus really wants to know you and be close to you.
